Days Out

Pensdown Go Karting

A favourite amongst Pensdown company days out is a day at the races.

Several times a year grown men and women strap themselves into glorified lawnmowers and go for a white knuckle drive around an interesting arrangement of tyres. For a moment they can imagine they are Damon Hill.

The motive behind these strange events is not just the meaningless pursuit of the chequered flag.

Some of these days out require considerable sponsorship to raise money for Kent Air Ambulance a charity that Pensdown is more than happy to support.

One such event last year involved teams from a variety of companies all donating £250 per team plus a minimum of £100 per driver. With four drivers in each team, the total raised was in excess of £10,000. Kent Air Ambulance is financed entirely from donations. With running costs estimated at about £4000 per day that?s a lot of fund-raisers.

With three-quarters of the team waiting to drive at any one time the emphasis is largely social.

The subject under discussion is usually the ongoing race, spins and team tactics.

At the end of the day everyone goes home blissfully convinced that they might have won if it wasn't for someone else's bad driving or because the other guy had had a faster car and a smaller breakfast...
